.284 180gr Berger Hybrid, how are they for you?

I'm launching these out of my RUM at 3200. So far I've shot 4 animals, and it has killed them all, but not dropping them on the spot.
My RUM use to be a 7mm mag, and I used 162 amax and 168 bergers. A shoulder shot guaranteed a dead on the spot animal. I can't remember many that ran at all.
With the RUM I've had two good shoulder shots, one on a red hind and the other a tahr, both ran a bit before falling over.
I know the hybrids have a thicker jacket than the VLD and a-max, but maybe too thick for the violent expansion and drop on the spot kills.
How are you guys finding them? Thinking I might go to the 180gr VLD.

180g berger hybrid, same results as stug, thats why the americans spine shoot them for "drop right there" performance

Then they have to finish them off with another shot once up close, not my cup of tea.

    Stay with the amax

Anything I have shot with them has dropped on the spot. Launched at just under 3,300fps out of my Fatmax or just under 3,500fps out of FX.

Compare the bulls shot in this video and the ranges shot at. First is me with Fatmax and next 2 are my brother with Amax at 3,050fps roughly.

If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

    Same thing as the claw

Only thing I find that run a bit are goats with them but then you can get a couple in 1 shot as well if you line them up. Smokes the 2nd one lol.

They are harder to get at the moment also the hybrids

Thought the 175gr lrab would be mean only shot 2 red skins and 1 Tahr, the tahr was a joke 4 shots all big holes swapped guns to my gonzo (amax) and smoked it. Deer died but big holes as well saves taking anything off the front tho

I tried the 175 ABLR at first but couldn't get them to group very well. How much are you jumping then @tui_man2 ?

Here is the shot of the tahr, was a bit behind the shoulder, but was high. I would have thought it would have shocked the spine enough to drop it

Had no luck? Found them easy at 5thou off in mine it liked them where ever they where.

In 2 gonzos that guys chose to run them in loads where 30-40 off but generally like the vlds etc closer the better

I tried them once, can't remember the jump, but got a 2-3" group at 100 yds, the 180 berger are 0.5" at 100. Might have another go with them as I have about 40 ABLR left.

Shot three reds in April, 3210fps one high shoulder shot dropped instantly, one front on shoulder shot which travel the full length on his body, he just rolled over. And one lung shot hind that ran 20m but that's expected. I like them. Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1439852976.245518.jpg

Are they made from that new "unobtainium" stuff too,
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

Re: Berger to introduce 7mm 195 gr EOL Hybrid Hunting Bullet
    MudRunner,

I appreciate your confidence in me, however I need to clarify.

The BC's we were talking about for this bullet prior to it being made were all estimates because the bullets weren't available for testing at that time.

Now that the bullets have been made, I've actually tested them for BC. The actual tested performance is:

    G1 BC = 0.755 (Average from 3000 to 1500 fps)
G7 BC = 0.387 (Valid for all speeds)

This is like 5% lower than initially predicted but still very high. To put it in perspective, the form factor (drag) is as low or lower (splitting hairs) as any Berger Bullet, and the BC is 4% higher than the .30 cal 230 grain.

    More info to come soon.

    -Bryan
