    I’m using Winchester 748 ball

Some get fancy Magnum primers, others I’ve just pulled out of the Greek surplus 303, the 98k does not care what it is fed.

A Mix of sako game head 286g, cast lead 300g and woodleigh premium big game 286g and a few old school Hornady interlock 286g projos

Throws all of them fine with the carcasses (or what’s left) to prove, haven’t run a chrono on them as realistically imo for bush hunting anything meeting that much weight flying around at sub 200m is going to have the big dirt nap if you touch it.

Accuracy is fine for 100m with Irons.

I will say as a recent 9.3 convert for anyone dubious, get one, anything organic will not appreciate being tickled with it !

    My usual sneaky sources haha

I can get bags of 50 from Betram out of AUS

    9.3x62 stamped

But yes some do need de burring or a tidy up, but I’ve had no issues just sizing and loading them up

I still have some on me, if you would like a couple to test ?

I don't remember a bulge like that. I was sizing them but then fireforming the rest of the way with some kind of cornmeal and AP70.

Yep it could have been a crooked chamber or an enlarged chamber with new minimum spec brass. I have no experience with the cartridge and thought it would be interesting to bring up.

    Greetings,
The base dia on the 9.3x62 is 12.10mm versus 11.95mm for the .30-06. .308W cases on my bench ran from 11.85mm for GFL down to 11.80mm for Winchester. .30-06 cases would likely be similar to .308 so some sort of a bulge should be expected with US cases at least.

I cant find my experimental cases I made as it was a couple of years back, but it stands to reason as the head sizes are different, I just dont remember noticing it. I remember after doing it deciding that 9.3 from 06 cases were perfectly usable, but I never reloaded them again after that.

I have a box of 100x Lapua 9.3 brass. With the low pressures of the cartridge, and the amount of buffalo I shoot, they should last me out. I made some 9.3 out of 30-06 brass just to see if I could do it.

Has anyone used the PPU round noses on deer so I know what to expect?

Expect the same as any 9.3 bullet on deer, in and out bang flop. The only destructive bullet has been the Speer 270gr at about 2600 fps from my 9.3x64 B.

Using .30-06 cases for forming other cartridges will sometimes lead to bulges, as 30-06 cases typically measure .466 at the base, even though the specs say it should be .472”.
The 9.3x62 should be .476 at the base but I’m told by other 9.3 owners cases actually measure no greater than .468”
I read somewhere that .30-06 brass is made with such a minimum spec to allow for the great variation in chambers around the world over 100+years of manufacturing, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s the same for any of the other century old cartridge designs so be quite undersized.

Ken Waters cautions the use of brass that is too far under spec in his pet loads column on the 7.7 Arisaka, regarding the use of .30-06 brass to form the 7.7 Jap.

Off topic a little I know… but back to the 9.3, @Billymavs what does the Bertram brass measure at the base? If you can spare a couple pieces I’d like to try some case forming with it?

@JohnDuxbury I’ve shot 1 stag with the ppu 286gr rn it was about 100yds and hit him in the spine just forward of the chest. Dropped him on the spot as you’d expect. MV is only about 2250fps.

Yes numerous when I owned one, all sub 100m. Never recovered a projectile and never lost a deer. Was effective and economical IMO. The 270gr speer hotcor were also very good performers and seemed to cause more damage.

Found my brass that I made out of .30-06. I still can't see a bulge...
I made it out of military LC69 .30-06, I sized it, and then I fireformed the shoulder with Semolina and AP70.
Maybe I will get a bulge if I load it again and fire it with full power loads. I will have to try it.

    Greetings,
Found an unfired Denver 42 cartridge which measured 11.85mm, the same as the GFL .308 cases I measured. The .30-06 military cases were designed to be fired in machine guns so are likely made stronger in the head body junction so any bulge is less noticeable.
    GPM.
