Thread: Impossible 6mm ??

I'd like a 6mm that will deliver a 105gn (or thereabouts) at 3000 fps with decent brass/barrel life. Easy until I say it must do it with a 20" barrel and a COAL of 2.4". It's also gotta feed reliably. I have a 6mm ARC but it's maxed out at 2880 fps with 22". The 6mm CM but is too long for my new action and the one I had didn't have a nice node at 3000 fps.

It's gonna be a hunting rifle.

Tell me about possible candidates like 6mm Dasher, 6mm GT and others in a NZ context.

What sized bolt face ?

Might get a 6xc or 6x47 to go that fast and be short enough (case length) but long barrel life and fast projectiles/ hot loads don't usually go together

What Action do you have ?
2.4 is really going to limit you .
3000fps in a 6mm is not conducive to long barrel life no matter what Cartridge/100gn + Projectile combo you are running.

A 6x47 L will do the trick. Mine easily did 3080 with 105s. It's a simple job to neck down the parent 6.5.

6 x 47 Lapua, goes pretty well, accuracy to make any Creedmoor jealous

Don't have my data on me except in Shooter, can't remember barrel length, probably 20-22" though

110 A-Tip at 3025 fps with accuracy to make you think WTF...I just did that ???

All the high performance 22-6mm cartridges are hard on themselves if heated up

I managed to get 2910 with 243 and 105 Targex in a 20 inch barrel, but it's too long of a cartridge for this project.

If you decide to go 6x47L, I actually have a three die Redding set sitting here lonely.

I have "standard" & "match" 6 x 47 Lapua reamers & plenty of US Cut barrels in stock
