RCBS puller & FL die expander ball adjustment

Got the target club RCBS press & dies on loan...

Couple of questions for the RCBS gurus... and yes I have RTFM

On the collet bullet puller, the case is rotating in the shell holder when I tighten up the collet What is the trick ?

On the FL die, the instruction booklet says you can adjust the decapping rod up and down, they say to have x.yz inches of decapping pin sticking out below the die body. Do you always screw in the expander ball part fully (and move both the pin and ball down together) or do you adjust the expander ball independent of the rod length ?

im guessing the die would be the same as a hornady, which I use.

the expander ball holds the de-capping pin in place, that should be done right up tight. then the whole threaded rod assembly screws in and out.
if it doesn't push the used primer out just wind the whole rod out a bit. (lock nut loosen, thread out, re-tighten lock nut)

(so short answer... move both pin and ball down together)

hope that helps.i use the hammer for pulling bullets.

    +1

The expanders position is fixed on the shaft. Well normally anyway, ... my 243 one ended up rolling round in a case. Doesn't pay to sneeze when sizing.

As long as you are using the right collet to suit the cal, it should be pretty simple? Just raise the ram until the projectile is firmly inside the collet but not so deep that the collet is touching the neck of the case and grabs that as well. Tighten it firmly on the projectile then lower the ram ... ?

The pin is attached to the spindle/rod via the decap ball, you will want to loosen the nut on top of the bushing which holds the spindle/rod in place. Rotate the spindle to the desired depth and tighten everything back up.
