    Tight primer pockets

Getting some 130 ttsx to test in the 308 so was prepping some once fired hornady brass as all the lapua is already loaded.
Tried the lee autoprimer.......nup then the redding priming gadget on my press.....nup. Had a look at the primer pockets and they have a gay little lip there. Managed to get one halfway........then all the way with much looking the other direction.

Turns out I used my deburring tool on the pockets to get rid of the lip, made it heaps easier but they are still tight as to get in.

Anyone else had this? What the deal Neal?

Fed Mag primers and Large rifle same same

Fill the case to the top with powder then seat a bullet then pull it and fill to top again and reseat then fire...will loosen those pockets right up !

is in once fired factory Ammo.
I think you will find, the brass has had the primer pocket crimped, I have had the same problem, in federal .204, Hornady 17 hornet and Hornady something else, 6mm Remington I think.

    Yep

Sounds like the primer pockets are crimped.

Your deburrer or a primer pocket reamer will take care of that for you Gibo.

    Cheers

Yep Noticed that --- Lupua brand new brass 308 , Fed210M primers, actually seems like the brass pockets on some are slightly small, pocket cleaner jams. I’m using my Lee press primer seater you can really lean on that, wouldn’t have a show with the hand gizmo. Also Remington 9.5 were similar, CAC OK and Winchester I have thrown away after news of blow backs wrecking bolts

Crimped primers are usually military spec items.

Ahh, so that was what I was doing wrong, nly filled it up to the brim and seated a bullet, never pulled the bullet and topped it up before testing. Primer pockets are still tight......................must try harder
