    Goat whispering

Well, goat calling actually, but whispering sounds more dramatic.
Has anyone had success using a game caller to lure goats into open country?
If so, what is the best call ? I am guessing a distressed Kidd, as in the old Judas goat trick

A nanny bleat can be quite effective in the bush.....not so sure about calling them out into the open tho?

I've had success just doing a Nanny bleat, couldn't believe how successful it was.

I know they like eating clothes off the line so if you can make a noise like a clothes line you'll be in.

I've employed this technique on goat hunts over many years and it works very well. After the initial barrage you can frequently call them back for another round. One thing I have noticed is that some people are better at it than others... one guy I hunted with years ago sounded like a sick old nanny but he just had 'the knack' for it. Maybe he was a sick bastard himself. Haha. One time we spied a mob and he let out what sounded like a real poor excuse for a goat call... bugger me, the old matriarch came bounding around the slope and ran right into him. Literally hit him and he rolled down the hill a couple of metres. Shit he moved fast after that... screaming downhill like a little girl, yelling something about "Get 'er off!, Get 'er off!!" ... while I pissed myself laughing. The old girl stood her ground, eye-balled me from about 2 metres then snorted and buggered off. I decided not to shoot her, she deserved to live with that kinda attitude.

When my son was younger he was a "EXPERT LEVEL 10"... just a young voice I guess. Must have sounded like a kid. He could really pull the girls. (Maybe it's me who's a sick bastard?)

Never tried a game caller on them but I guess there is no reason why this wouldn't work. Goats are (to quote Yogi) "smarter than your average bear" and I've often felt that if you don't get the call right then they will run a mile instead. But if you nail it - and I assume this means you have to sound like one of their family group - it's great fun. You might also find that the bigger the mob, the better your chances. A small family group of 5 or 6 is possibly less likely to be sucked in by an intruder within their patch while a larger mob might not be able to recognise every call of their extended family. If you get my drift.

Give it a go. You have nothing to lose.

    Excellent info, thanks.
I have picked quite of few out of the mob over the last few months, and they now seem to be getting a bit cautious/smarter, staying in the scrubby shit rather than out grazing in the open.
I recently picked up an AJ caller from another forum member, so ordered the new goat call card for it. Got to be worth a try .

The caller came with, among others, the Mallard card. I have no use for it, so if anyone wants it, PM me.

Pengy, I have a question. "What the fuck"? Let me get this right. You, a belly sliding, fish eating, flightless, poor excuse for a duck are going to sit in the bush trying to make a sound like a goat so that the goats come to you rather than you waddling your low slung tail feathers to the goats. Man you have gotten lazy since you headed south.

    Definitely worth a try.

Goats learn fast and they're smarter than you might give them credit for. I was watching a few mobs spread across a valley a couple of weeks back when a R44 chugged past overhead - the goats vanished as soon as the helicopter broke into the valley. They'd been harassed by an R44 in the past and knew it meant trouble. They definitely modify their behaviour with experience.

I bought a $3 'animal calls' app, and took a battery powered Bluetooth speaker bush last time I went goating. Parked the speaker in a popular clearing and used my phone to try a variety of goat calls via the speaker, positioned about 10-15m away in the open. Within a few minutes of 'callling', a couple of goats appeared. No idea if it's coincidence or not, but they ended up dead.
