    hunting on river beds.

    Quick question are you able to hunt on them for rabbits etc I have been told you are allowed shotguns only as rifles ricochet if so is this true? Cheers

    No shooting anywhere on most Canterbury river beds with rifles.
    Shotguns only during game bird season, but there are still no go areas. Areas listed in licence booklet.

    Thanks for that might get a license then and have a go at a bit of duck shooting as well. cheers for that

    Ah bugger im guessing it applies to the rangitata as well, Any idea how to find out who owns certain areas of the riverbed?

    DOC often have info on who particular land owners are if their property is adjacent to conservation land, especially as often enough you need that information if you want angler access to riverbeds etc.. I'd call your local DOC branch or go in and visit them and ask..

    I'll give them a ring and see what they have to say might try ecan as well as the own most of the riverbeds.

    Pre RCD I used to shoot the Selwyn at least twice a month otherwise the Rakaia with shotgun and dogs - not sure what the situation is these days
