Pick a road a few kms out of town, knock on some doors/leave a business card.

Door knocking works. 9/10 will say no, but eventually you will get a yes.

He was taking the piss, it's common around here.

Respectfully, this country is crawling with tree bears. If you can't find a place to shoot a few racoons there's no hope for you.

90% of the places I shoot are private, and none of them landed in my lap. Get out there and ask. Nothing to lose right? Stretch reckons he gets turned down nine times out of ten, I have found the opposite.

    Hi buddy

I'm in the Waikato too. As the guys say, door knocking is the best way.
Just pick a road and drive until all you see is farmland. First time I did this I got 3 Nos and 1 Yes.
Be friendly and respectful and just move on if you get a No.

And don't go out loaded for bear. Recce run means you aren't there to hunt right now, but talk to them and jack up phone numbers etc as well as a quick look to get the lay of the land.
