Well theres a bunch of daft suggestions put up to take take the P*** already.

    Look at nimrods post.

Go to MSC website and buy a copy of the bushcraft manual.

Join NZDA and go on HUNTS course. Half the participants are blokes just like yourself getting back into it.

IMHO absolutely essential items you cant hunt without and need to tick off as you drive away are:
    Boots
    Rifle
    Bolt and ammo
    Parka
    Compass
    Knife

If you were naked and had those you would survive and could shoot a deer.

Instead of loo paper which shreds and isn't finger proof anymore, carry a couple of those small handy pack paper handkerchiefs. They stay together.......

The right brand is fingerproof. Just can't buy home brand etc. Or the cottonelle shit.

Always keep the loo paper in the drybag.

Im just not on the same wavelength am I ? Loo paper is NOT essential. Next you ll be saying you like to take underpants.

I have to admit I do always wear socks, myself.

One thing no one has covered is a brew kit.... 800ml stainless mug with a small gas cylinder, cooker, sport and a coffee bag

+1 on plb and a first aid kit that's adequate to the job.
Couple of blisters, sure 2 band aids change them at the hut, 3 day trip... 10+ and then your mate does the same or something serious crops up.

Loo paper is an absolute essential. Last hunt I had eaten something dodgy the night before, I would have dam near paid my brother $10 bucks a sheet for his dunny paper and it was a big "job"

I always take PLB, Knife, ammo, rifle incl bolt and jacket and first aid kit, lighter and a couple of fire starters and a torch and some light cord plus a "Straw" water filter. Loo Paper and plastic bags
Everything else is case by case but thses things go everywhere

All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

One thing I would add to those lists is antihistamines. Last time I was in the Kaipo I got four wasp stings on the one leg, three of those on the knee. I reckon having those to hand meant my knee continued to bend & let me walk out okay.

Have you guys considered disposable nappies (carry them out, of course)?
