Binos and something to sit on, small fit of foam down the back of pack makes a world of difference

Good advice so far, I would watch the weather for a few weeks prior at least, that time of year could be 30plus and dry or in the minuses plus windchill and snow depending on the year...regardless I would take some summer and some winter gear(mostly winter)

Water on some of the Malborough tops can be scarce. Its often quite a climb down to a wet seep or creek head. Your helicopter operator should be able to advise you on that.
But take a couple of 20 litre containers with you in case you need to take them in full.

Few things (out of the ordinary) that I've started bringing up to the tops with me:
heaps of soup sachets - weight nothing, quick + a great way to warm your hands and tide you over when glassing for hours!
extra socks + jandals for camp
    extra tent pegs!!

I went on a forum rabbit shooting trip one time and took my purpose built anti rabbit assualt AR. I purchased 6 mags and a tactical mag pouch so I could do tactical mag changes and rapid fire at the hords of rabbits that were going to assualt me. Anyhow long story short I left my 6 mags in the hut and had to single feed my AR for the day...
