Yes if your on the Waikato side you can look down on the Waihou river and listen to the Salvos of shotgunners trying to hit them

So the deer will be desensitised and just milling around asking to be harvested?

I've had some real fun with buck chamois at the beginning of their rut. Had one follow me all the way up a stream no more than 25m away, just kept me company. Wearing dark clothing helps, or a black dog is a real winner to get them in.

They'll do in a pinch. Heard Chamois aren't toooo fussy during the rut
Used to be a fine wine - now I'm vinegar.
