Thread: Kawekas - Back Ridge Hut?

A few mates and I are planning a trip into this area in the early new year. I was wondering if anyone on here has been in there recently and can give us a heads up on what to expect? It goes without saying that we aren't after your secret spots/lookouts or gps co-odinates.

Essentially - basic information regarding?

- What's the track/walk in like from Makahu Saddle carpark (time frame etc)?
- Is there any water available at the hut (water tank - closest stream/river)?
- What facilities are in the hut (fry pans, fire palce, meat safe etc)?
- Cell phone reception (what networks)?

Where are you walking in from ?
Theres a creek just next to the hut
There will be Cell coverage from the ridge top, doubt if theres any at the Hut itself
Sorry, can't remember if theres a fireplace, I'll have a look at some photo's tonight, and let you know.
Actually thinking about it, go to the DOC website, click on Back Ridge Hut, and it'll tell you all about it
