Rabbits, Goats or deer (near auckland) ??

    Hey all

ive been hunting for a couple of years but mainly small stuff, rabbits etc and this year i finally bought by first decent gun, a .243 so we went for a trip to the south island got a couple of goats but didnt bag any deer unfortunatley.

anyhow i live in auckland and really wanting to see if i can get onto some goats within 2 hours drive from Auckland and on a frequent basis (every couple of months)

if anyone would have access or allow me on their propety it would be greatly appreciated, i understand this is a long shot and its all about "contacts" which im trying my best but so far only got
on a property in Hunua that has rabbits, and next door neighbour with goats but not allowed on the neighbours property.

    anyhow, anything would be awesome,

    cheers Blair

Sounds like time to start door knocking.

The Kaimai are with in two hours try Wairere Falls or knock on some doors in the Gordon area they might let you on.
Take a compass or gps though as it's easy to get lost.
If you leave Auckland at 4am you should be at the top of the falls by 6.30am

I get the pleasure of been annoyed by people door knocking to shoot stuff on an almost weekly basis. I think the best way to get places to shoot is prove your genuine and a good sort by regular posts on forums like this.

Have a look at any of the North Waikato DOC hunting blocks.

I don't think I could ever bring myself to randomly just rock up to someone else's property and ask permission to hunt on there land. It just seems not the polite thing to do in my opinion...

@BLABLANZ In my experience the best way to get shooting spots around Auckland are through contacts ie with references. If you live in the are that is your best intro! Failing that door knocking has also worked but requires a lot of work with only occasional reward. Considering that this is a shooters forum I would expect most of the guys on here use their property but hay if you get an invite that's awesome.

I had a number of spots which have dwindled to almost nothing due to life style block developments etc which have eaten up the countryside and goats seem to be getting scarce... Deer well there were some out your way.

Good luck I hope you get some spots and hold on to them if you do!

Wish the rest of auckland thought the same, the worst one was two coppers one on duty and in the company car with his off duty mate, must have thought the car and uniform would help.

Now that's bloody cheeky good to see that your taxes are paying for good law enforcement. What they will be taking bribes next.

Far out that really seems like an inappropriate use of the uniform.

Here here I was thinking it was just me who felt like that
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.
