    Roaring horn

Hey lads, I've been gifted an old cow horn that was taken from a cow on my grandparents farm many moons ago. I've sanded it up and got it looking good. Just wondering what is the best way to protect it after that? Urethane, lacquer, clear coat etc...

Apologies for not putting this in the right thread, wasn't sure where to put it.

Just go down through the grades of wet and dry... 800 is finish... Brasso to really bring out a gloss finish... Bit of boiled linseed... Beautiful!

You can also use car polish / cut and polish paste after the final sanding - works a treat!

I used 0000 steel wool to finish my cow horn then a quick wipe with some furniture wax.

I have three more here ready for when I've got some time to teach myself Scrimshaw.

    Cheers

What Biggun708 said, got a horn off him probably 20yrs ago treated as he said and it still looks like new.

As others have said with regard to sanding.
Protection wise I use bee's wax. warm it up to level where it is tactile, ish. thumb it on then i use an old stocking to polish. I found some pics of the process. I'll take one of the finished product if you like.
