Thanks TeRei-yes have read this on the net and it got me all wanting! If only I had a Tikka 595 that needed re-barreling...Guess thats what The Claw did...good on ya. I heard that True Flite are not turing out as good a barrel as they used too and don't know if thats true? Guy at Hamills in Tauranga passed the comment. Guess he is wrong as Redbang & The Claw would not have use True Flite if that was the case?
What primers you using Redbang? CCI br4?

What other barrel makers do we have to choose from in NZ?
What sort of cost does one have to expect to pay, to say rebarrel a 223 to a 20 Practical/204 Ruger/223AI?

As for reaming it cost me $200-250 one of those numbers so I guess most gun smiths will be similar

So about $500 all up then? Not to bad then.
Probably cheaper than trying to sell my Tikka and buy a Varmint one.

Would you end up with a better quality product from Trueflight? But a more expensive one?

True flite ultra match barrels are about $550 + GST and chambering and fitting about $250 + GST. I would say to work on a grand to buy, chamber & fit up most of the premium barrels.

I've got a Tikka T3 lite in 223. Was considering a Varmint in 223, or possibly 204 Ruger.
I really like it nice feeling and accurate, but want a heavy barrel, probably because I want one just as much as I need one.

A great base for this, worth a look at in your existing rifle.

I do remember reading about that and being very impressed. The velocities you show are almost hard to believe.
Is it just as easy as necking up 204 brass and thats it? Can't be arsed fire forming or neck turning.

Is Norma your best bet for brass? Lapua doesn't do 204 brass does it?
How much would it cost for dies and to have my barrel reamed?

It's funny that you used the 53gr Vmax and the 75gr Amax, as there are exactly what I would have chosen.
What powder where you using for those two loads?

Yep just a straight neck up.

Mag needs extending, no drama with the Tikka.

    Have used BM2 with the 53s & 2206H or 2208 with the 75s.

    Trying 80 Amax & 90 Bergers tomorrow in a new 7 twist.

I'm trying RP, Hornady & Norma brass out at the moment, doesn't seem to be much in it at this early stage.

    Pm coming.

I bought a M595 off of a forum member, fitted a 26" Bartlein, chambered it in 204 Ruger and I love it. Its on page 500 of the "show your rig I think as posted by Jaco Goosen.

Maybe I'll go for the Tac or the Prac next time.
