.22 is misfiring - empty shells are stuck in gun and crushed - any ideas?

    Hi everyone

My partner has a Marlin 795 - .22 semi-automatic that he's owned for 2 years and never had a problem with it.

Lately it has started misfiring. The bullet will fire but the empty case gets stuck in the gun and is very bent on one side.

He uses the gun regularly and cleans it when required.

Any ideas of what may be causing this to happen?

    Thanks in advance

Or a peined chamber from dry firing.

Can you post a picture of the chamber and the extracted empty case.

The good news is both issues are easily fixed

    Cheers

The 795 has pretty chunky extractor claw so I doubt it would break easily, but it does nestle in a very close fitting groove in the the bolt. You should be able to move it reasonably freely with a fingernail.

No expert as are some here - but I have a question.
The case looks like it's too long for the chamber.
Is he using 22WMR ammo by mistake?
    Has the box been kept?
That will help in this identification.
Might be a possible reason for the extraction difficulties.
The case looks like it's jamming in the rifling and being mashed about when loaded by the action.
    My 2c worth.

Either that or its not recoiling far enough to eject and the empty is being reloaded at a angle as the bolt trys to go back into battery. Happens in my 10/22 running subs if its not cleaned every 200 rounds.

    He's currently using Sub-Sonic - 22 LR HP - 1050 FPS - 40 grain

And before that he used Stinger - 22 LR - 1640 FPS - 32 grain

@Martin Henry is onto it. I've had this issue occasionally myself. All I do is get a bit of gun oil in there to lube it up and no more probs. Only does it with sub's once in a while. Might help if I stripped and cleaned it too I guess.
