    Question 6.5 options??

    Hey all

Thought id ask here for something different an few options

I have a rem700 S/A in 243 that i have fiddled an changed a few bits, but after a few shot placements gone wrong through little wrong wind call an close running shots iv lost few animals now an spent my time of looking for them to find them/dead animals not too far from where hit i know this happens but after a little more grunt, have a 7mm so thats got enought but its open rifle

This will also be open/steel gun, im looking at building a 260ai on it?

    Other options are.............straight 260
    6.5x47
    6.5 creedmoor
    6.5-284?
    6.5x55(AI?)

I have modified my mag to take londer rounds but couldnt be super long match chamber

Any other ideas or input? chuck it in

    Cheer Abe

    G'Day Fella's,

Tui-man 2 the short answer is, take your 7mm!

Back to the .243, before I went changing rifles/barrels, I'd get some opinions on the bullets you are currently using and some other options!
I assume you are hunting/shooting Reds?

    Hope that helps

    Doh!

If its a Short action I wouldn't bother with a 6.5/284 or 6.5x55 Ackley or standard....
    6.5x47
    6.5 Creedmore
    260 Rem

    All good options....

Nice thing about the 6.5x47 is the COAL.... can get nice long pills into a repeater..... less room in a 260rem...

    Now you just getting cranky:grin:

U won't get that with the 6.5x47, Creedmore or standard 260Rem.

U may not get it with 260Ackley unless in a long action. Can't get it in a 6.5x55SE with 24" barrel or less and that needs a long action.
Could get it in a 6.5/284 but more likely in a LA, and most don't like running them that hot.

I am running a 6.5x55BJAI in a long action at 3050 with fireforming loads 24" barrel, expecting 3100-3200 when sorted...with 140 Amax.. but that don't help cause yours is a short action...

¥øu are probably being unreasonable

Tui-man2, a fella I know in NZ that is a hunting guide, uses a Rem Mod 7 in .260 with 125grn Nosler B-Tips, as his primary customer loan rifles.
He reckons, that with well placed shots, most things go belly up!!!

    Doh!

My COAL for my reamer on the 6.5x55BJAI with the 140 Amax is 75.1mm
COAL in my 6.5x47 with the 123 Amax is 67.36mm

260ai sounds the closest bet with a Short action..

Thats my problem been my close to farish rifle shots can be hurried at times an not always go in the well placed spot in the heat of the battle.

i have 80mm in my mag box so it would fit an they just eject when unfired.

what speed you get the 123 amax in your 47?

Its not so much the max length as it is the angles that are created with the shorter action, the lack of taper on the ackley case and the steeper shoulders... I have great feeding in the finnlight with a long action originally set up for the 6.5x55SE.. not sure that you wouldn't have to do some mods on the SA Rem to get it working....

Still working up loads for the 6.5x47 but Outdoor Lad has 2800-2900 for the 123G Amax out of a 19" barrel with RE15... I have a short barrel on mine as well.

If your only getting those speeds I wouldn't bother. Better to stick with the 260 or 6.5X55, I've had both doing 120's at a very comfortable 3000. 80mm you would almost fit a 6.5/06 into that.

Greg the new pink look is a different look for you???

The plain old 260 is a great work horse and fits the mag easily but the 6.5 284 gets my vote just need a long mag and some gunsmithing
1000yds is fun, 1500yds is getting interesting, 2000yds is exciting, 2500yds will blow your mind
