"Police should collect all the members’ guns, which included sniper rifles, and secure them until the crime was solved, he said."

Got to love the little wording and connotations 'sniper' has, not long range target rifle?

I think they have to endorse the permits to procure? Might be a list of that?

Cub secretary and armorer could be one and the same. You have to when you apply for a Permit to procure you have to take a "pinky" form from club saying the gun meets the NZPA rules (or words to that effect) form has 2 copies and club retain one.

It's one thing to break into a reasonably good safe, it's another to do it and leave the scene completely sterile forensically - short of torching the joint on the way out. The person doing the robbery most certainly won't be doing this kind of thing for the first time, and there's every chance he/they will be known to police. I hope they don't get the usual wet bus ticket

Is that not a bloody big hole in the security system!?!?!?

It is bad enough that the police keep a record but for a civilian home to have a record is asking for trouble!

I know but its a "police requirement" to have when applying for a permit to procure and is carbon copied I guess to provide a record in case of comebacks

Can somebody PM me if this was the big rifle and pistol club or the small one? I'm a member of the small one and didn't get a text but don't want to assume it was the other club.

I agree but it would be great to have a standard set of rules for both situations.
