I agree a heavy barrel is over kill for walking etc but as it's not intended for a possum or walking gun this doesn't bother me.

Accuracy will be my only intent, problem with that is it's a bit of a lottery

When I got Tony to do my 22LR barrel for me there was going to be a 6 month wait to get a factory heavy contour barrel in so I asked him about doing one. Used a True Flite stainless barrel, cost was around $200 more than a factory barrel from memory. But I ended up with a match barrel (that Tony measured and scoped and said was an extremely good barrel) that was stainless and with a match chamber. Shoots awesome too!

I have considered doing a 17HMR barrel based on my experience with the 22LR, just haven't got round to it yet!

Not sure that Tony is taking on much work these days though... Last time I talked to him he was trying to limit to rebarrels etc for existing customers.
If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

    Cheers mate.

I flicked Tony an email but haven't heard back. Most others either didn't want to touch it or were too busy lol.

Mark at desert guns said he can do it so will give him a crack. He said he'll do it for a price cheaper I can buy the chamber reamer and go no go gauges for otherwise I would have had AB Reid do it.

Will report back with how it goes once done. I personally won't be able to shoot it until end of Feb though.

Have to add I was impressed with the speed, information and straight up replies from everyone I contacted, is very refreshing from what I've become accustomed to in the states. In fairness to Tony I'm not even sure if the email I used is the right one as I dug it out of Google somewhere.

My apologies to Tony. For some reason his reply was flagged as spam.
Just like the rest though had heaps of information and tips.

These kind of replies are much appreciated when you're looking to spend money in a field that is unknown to you.

    Getting excited now.

Big thanks to Mark McFarlane at Desert Guns. Looks mint.
Hopefully before too long @Alonzo can put it through it's paces and report back to how it shoots.

Hey - could you tell us (or me via a PM if you prefer) how much it cost to have the barrel chambered and the Sako "breeching" machined??

    Thanks

Cheap enough to make it worth it

Once it's received and fitted to the stock I'll post some more photos. Hopefully before too long Alonzo will have a chance to shoot it, overwise I'll post a report end of Feb haha

    Getting there.

Few DIP bits to go on and it will need a suppressor to balance out the length a little, waiting to hear back from volquartsen on if they will supply me just the end cap with thread adaptor before I have one custom made.

May as well have the nice scope sitting atop the rifle that will get the most use.
Rather the vx6hd being the one getting smashed up when I fall down a hill or slip in a river with the finnlight.
