    How bad is a vx2

    hay guys

So I am shortening my 708 down to about 14" it currently wears a 3.5-10 vx3 with target turret on top.

Im thinking it will be overkill for what i need so looking for other options

2-3x36 vx3 doesn't have cds but the vx2 2-7x33 dose how bad is the optics difference in the real word?

Is there other suitable scopes out there i should look at?

Not really concerned with weight but want to get it down as handy as i can get it.

    Cheers
    Shane

what about 2-8x VX3i with Boon and Crocket reticule, thats what I use on my 6.5 TCU although its just been moved onto my new bush gun.
Out to 300 no bloody fannying around with bloody knobs (cds or paralax),

I have had vx3 and now have vx2 on my main rifle. I wouldn't describe vx2 as bad but i can tell the difference and do wish i had spent the extra on the vx3.

If you have been spoilt by euro glass leupold's 1/2/3 aren't going to satisfy you.
    If not they are fine.

7mm/08 down that short........ what maximum range are you looking at???? what sized animals are you targeting???? BECAUSE if you are going to be sub say 300 yards and mainly in bush stalking type conditions where 75 yards is a long shot....well then you dont need or indeed even want much scope...... one of the smaller 1-5 type scopes might be better still
for what its worth Im quite happy to use a vx1 3x9x40mm out to 350-400yards..and yes euro glass is awesome but so is the price.

Nothing wrong with a VX1 2-7 in at closer ranges.

I have owned a Vari-X II 2-7x33 for 25 years and consider it the most versatile scope in my armory.
At 2x no problem for close range bush shooting.
7x covers everything out to 250-300 yd.
    Compact and lightweight.
1" tube works well with a 33 mm objective lens.
Do ya really need CDS dials for a 14" 7-08?

The 2-7-33 is surprisingly clear and dials well

I use one on a Sako 75 in 7 mm08 to 600yrds on Sika no problem, its in a mates safe and he keeps hunting with it and won't return the rifle

I bush hunted with it for years no problem

Its a tidy little scope that weighs bugger all, great for a compact rifle

    Cheers for the replys guys.

To be fair its more going to be a goat gun and back up for when i take other people out

Will do a little bush stalking but not a big fan.

Prob dont need cds but definitely handy to have if needed.

    Cheers
