As far as I've seen from reviews online, the Vortex razor HD gen 2 series is the best on the market for features and quality as the general consensus is that nightforce is getting stale in the market due to the lack of modernising or updating their scopes.

Now kahles is an amazing quality product, but it's not better than the top shelf vortex stuff and the Vortex warranty is the best in the business... you can literally throw your rifle out of your car while driving down the highway and claim a free repair job.

Well that's my opinion derived from countless hours researching scopes that are out of my budget anyway... I've never handled the Vortex Razor series but I have handled and used the kahles and nightforce and they were of exceptional quality, but not 2-3k more than my Viper PST.

Kahles k624i = NZ$4300 from Kilwells Sports website
Vortex Razor HD gen II = NZ$4255 from NZ Guns website (down from NZ$5125)
Vortex is ~400grams heavier and shorter in length than the Kahles.

The Gen 2 Razor has a better FOV than both the Kahles, and Nightforce and a lot better than a PM2.
Unfortunately there is no free lunch as the trade off is the crazy weight.

I don't think any of the mentioned scopes are the best choice if weight is an issue, but in saying that if FFP and great turrets are a must I'm not sure what will fit the bill and not weight half the weight of a Sako finlite

I've got a Razor Gen 2. Awesome scope but as everyone says its got some weight to it - 1.1kg. @camo wsm have you considered the Gen 2 PST 5-25x50? It has 20mil elevation and comes in at about 800 grams.

Cheers guys I have considered vortex and really wanted to try the razor amg 6-24x50 but no one seems to have one or any experience with them? And as there is no Nz distributor I'd have to get it in from Aussie and pretty nervous committing to it sight unseen

Wouldn't a 3-24x52 march fit he bill perfectly, not only much lighter but also compact and would suit a hunting rifle probably better??

I like the idea of the red button on the Kahles letting you know your on the second revolution on the turrets and I like the MKSR reticle.
But I'm a Nightforce junkie, bomb proof, reliable clicks, illuminated reticle and zero stop is my main criteria. Weight? well that's what a slings for. If I didn't get a Nightforce for my next scope a Vortex Razor gen2 would be next on the list, I like there turret locks and illumination setup, they also have a very good warranty if it was needed.

Love NF but mag range too restrictive as an all rounder hunter unless you choose 3.5-15. Top end good enough for 600m bottom ok for bush.
I ended up with a Lieca magnus after considering swaro Z8 and Zeiss v8 . For dedicated long range NF are superb . I use my 5.5-22 NSX or BEAST.

I'm a nightforce slut, just picked another 2 up.
as far as been behind in advancements I would say they are more like,
let's not put out a hurried product let's research test evaluate test reavaluate then put on the market.
there is no no compromise on the 3Rs.
    rugged reliable repeatable.
    end of story!

I'd like one of the Kahles but have no need for it
I'm not a big scope person and find the 3x12S&B and 3x10 etc plenty for my needs out to as far as I need
have the 3x10x42 N/F in Mil
    Great scope.
