Thread: Lithgow Black Mountain Rifles barrel

I was given a 308 omark black mountain rifle barrel has a wee bit of throat wear what could it be made into and what actions would fit?

I have a black mountain barrel on a Remington 40x, It is easy to fit to another action as on an Omark the bolt locks into the barrel cut the locking lugs off flush and thread it for your action
as long as the barrel diameter is right for the action you have, I also have a barrel from an Omark fitted to a Mauser K98 action, The Black Mountain barrels are very good my half shot out one will still shoot .5 MOA
check the twist rate could be 1:13" or 1:14" both will handle 168 gr SMK's

I worked on one the other day.
The land were below 0.280". ( 0.300 is the standard) beware of the pressures that could be generated by factory loads into such a tight barrel!

That is on the tight side Friwi my Black mountain is .297" groove is .3075" they were made tight for the ADI 147 gr FMJ projectiles I have heard of groove diameters of .3065"
don't know what the bore diameter of those barrels was, I guess they made custom sizes for particularly bad batches of projectiles they were only military spec stuff for
machine gun ammo
