Thread: School me on Leupold CDS turrets

Just trying to get my head around this....

So if you get CDS turrets enscribed for a particular caliber/load, the clicks are still in 1/4 MOA, but the markings on the dial are in units of 50 yds or meter ?

VC, for the turrets marked in 1/4 MOA, did you have to send the scope away, or do you just order the turrets and swop them yourself ?

Anyone have an mail addy for the leupold custom shop ?

And is that an extra cost??

Yes, yes (you just swap them yourself when it arrives) and no.

I have CDS on my Leupold. Veitnamcam has already described it perfectly.

I have since custom marked this turret for the Hornet load.

A standard 1/4 moa turret is ideal as you can change rifle/scope combos easily. You just need to work out your drop chart as you normally would with another dial up scope. Having a load specific turret limits you somewhat to one load, but you can still use it as a "dial up" scope easily enough if you do change loads. I had one fitted to a vx3 I had, wasn't expensive and was about a 3 week turnaround. I only used it for a short time but it worked well.

Anyone used one of those Nikon m223 scopes? Any good?

He possibly means inch minutes as opposed to true minutes (1.047"@100yds)

with mine, 4.5-14LR . . i got the CDS dial n 1/4'' clicks with No zero stop

you get a free voucher with some models, VX3 and up

i contacted the NZ agent who sent me a 1/4'' zero stop / one turn dial for No charge . . . turns out the difference is a tiny ball bearing, i asked myself ' wouldnt it have been easier to put the ball bearing in a packet with the original scope ' anyway

good system, returns to zero every time

the BDC style custom turret for one particular load does not appeal to me but might to others

Just bought a Vx3i with the CDS. The scope (includes vx6 etc) already come with a MOA turret so you can use it like any other dial up scope. You get one free CDS dial . You send your custom infor for your ammo away and they send you a CDS dial that you replace the MOA one with and you set to go.
You can get a zero stop no problem if you ask. You can get one rotation with that or not, your choice. i got a zero stop. You can set it in metres or yards , what ever you want.
Heres what i did.
I set my one for the Hornady 165 gr sst. Set it at a zero of 100m. Got a zero stop . Arrived within two weeks, with all your infor on top of the dial (ie bullet, speed, temp etc) Its set for metres.
So i just replace my MOA turrent thats already on it.
I put my new CDS dial set on 1 on the hash mark. Its set at 100m. If i want to shoot at 350m i just turn the dial to 3.5 and its all set to 350m. easy as. With the zero stop i can dial straight to 500m, plenty for what i want to do. if i didnt have a zero stop i could dial further. If i change ammo you can get another CDS dial for 59US or just replace the CDS dial with the MOA dial and use a cheat sheet and dial as you wish.
Its that easy

Does the zero stop option cost more with the cds voucher?
