What to buy for long range

Hi guys I'm planning a trip down South Island for chamois and tarh in June but having trouble with a finding 7mm rem mag with out a pricy tag and that's not going to blow shoulder apart as I've been told that what the tikka light will do. Any other good brands or cal u guys would recommend that's affordable
    Cheers

The tikka T3 lite in 7mmrem mag will not blow your shoulder apart.

A light load of adi AR2217, say 70-72 grains will give you 2900-3000fps with a 162g a-max and will be like a 7mm-08 to shoot

That combo will harvest all the deer species in NZ that you are likely to encounter, and you won't ever need to buy another rifle as your skill set improves.

If you need more energy at range then get the same rifle in 300 win mag and use the 180g BT or 190g VLD at the same velocities. This chambering also suits the 230g target VLD but only when your experience dictates the necessity, and yes, your shoulder will certainly feel the difference from the 7mm.

    Cost $1200 at H&F

Who told you a light 7mmRM was going to destroy your shoulder?
What do you shoot at the moment?

My ten year old shoots my 7mm rem mag with a dan can no sweat so go for gold on the tikka as nice and light to carry.
Just cut the barrel back 4 inches or so to keep a good balance

A tikka with a limbsaver recoil pad is fine to shoot. The factory Tikka pad has almost no padding but the limbsaver is awesome. What rifle do you have at the moment? Going to a new rifle just before a trip is not a good idea. A 708, 308 or the like will easily get you to 400-500 yds with the right projectile and scope.
I would put my money into a good scope before I bought a new rifle for long range shooting.

Then there is no point having a 7RM is there? you loose the advantages of having a 7rm, velocity.

Do you have a rifle currently? You don't actually need a magnum to easily shoot Tahr or Chamios...

yep might as well go 280, chopping an 24inch(if its a tikka) back to 20 isnt the best idea for velosity, but neither was chopping my 223 barrel to 12 inches, yet im pleased with the end product

I have a Sako A7.. Doesnt recoil as much as people say...Believe me when you have a game on your scope sights and you let it crack..you wont even feel that you shot it...
