    Diy drawers

Any one made some rear drawers to go in the back of a 4wd? Seen a few plans using structual 16mm ply and nylon instead of slides?

I just welded a steel square with four legs and slapped a piece of 17mm ply in the back of my cruiser. Used plastic bins for gear, cheaper, lighter and easier to swap out what's in the truck.

I priced the 1200mm slides at $320 a pair. But they're robust enough to do one drawer across the width of my LandCruiser. 130kg load weight from memory.

I've seen tradies trucks just sliding on timber to timber. Seemed to work OK but my reservation is off-road where you need something robust

The drawer is full width under the dog crate, and the back door holds it closed.

I used wooden runners, and rub candle wax on them occasionally.

Usually pheasants are carried inside, NOT on the spare tyre.

I made my own for my surf.
Nylon slides underneath. 16mm ply. Heavy duty.
    finished. carpet top

    handles to life drawers out.

drop in table for making food.

bolt on rears to make double bed.

    access panel

    sliders

on bottom of drawers - run in between sliders on base of frame. So no sideways movement

locking into D points in floor between drawers and rear seats with turn buckles

New prado has MCC roller drawers. Heavier. Roll well, loads of space and very functional. Miss my ply ones.
Couldn't make them this time, as things have changed at work, can't do foreigners at work under new H&S rules

Had nice intentions to put drawers in the back of the 80. Was thinking along the lines of nylon slides etc too. But it never happened. It's far to easy to just put plastic containers in it. Mines made of 12 and 16mm ply. Don't think it's even structural ply cause I'm a jew.

I'll try and get a updated picture cause it's always a work in progress. Fair to say I could still put drawers in if I decide to thou.

Has anyone got any links to decent rollers/slides? Looking to make some for my pj ranger double cab. I need to figure out what length slides work best to get full length of the draws.

Funny his thread popped up.... Can someone measure the distance between the insides of an 80series on a 80series (and a few others... Like height of wheel wells, length from back of rear seats to inside back door, distance from rear of wheel wells to he back etc....) Plan is wih seats up, have a platform level with wheel arch with a folding lid hinged about a third out from the back-seat. Truck has the vertical split doors so can plan things differently

For the plastic runners, try either
mulford plastics Mulford Plastics | Delivering Solutions | Large Format Printing Suppliers | Plastic Sheet Suppliers

    Or
Lep let.co.nz*-*Diese Website steht zum Verkauf!*-*Informationen zum Thema let.

I got some nylatron a few years ago for boat trailer runners, 18mm thick, they cut it to width.
    Bloody great and bloody slippery.
Please excuse spelling, as finger speed is sometimes behind brain spped........ Or maybe the other wayy.....

Thanks @Beaker. I might look at getting some decent bearing slides/runners.
I don't know how I'd construct draws on nylon runners without the weight of the draws tipping the end of the draw up when being extended all the way out.

When the drawers are full, they won't slide all the way out. if you make them tall enough, as they are pulled out they will tilt, so the remainder will rise and stop against the top surface.

See my slides above. You can make them from strips of nylon, from a cutting board/butchers board. I went to a plastics company and for 12 beers, got them cut. Drilled them myself.
Put a spring loaded gate bolt inside at the rear of the drawer, pointing up, screw a stop on the underside of the top surface.
This is the same way DRIFTA in Oz make their drawers slide.

I built one similar to 1toeknee1 's version for my 100 series. Use commercial fish bins which slide in and out nicely. I have different bins for different gear, so recovery gear/chains/strops all in one. Then a couple others, one with work gear, helmet, hiviz, h&S docs. And the other with my normal hunting gear I take every trip, such as cooker/tent/gators/boots/jacket/freezedry etc. So I can just chuck the hunting one in if Im off for the weekend. I put a compartment down the middle too which is big enough to get my planting/digging stuck truck out spade in, and my rifle also so it's out of sight completely. Height wise, it's the same heights 2nd row seats folded down so I can sleep in the truck if I need to.
