Back in the day in my area, the best saw to get was the saw used on a bush skid. They hard a hard life but very well looked after usually, bars, chains etc
The guys I knew, played football with etc. ran by the rule that the day they couldn't get it started with the first couple of pulls they were on the way out so to speak and traded in on a new one in the near future, usually only 12 months old. Still nothing wrong with them for a home use and a good industrial chainsaw.

Couple of my staff own shindaiwa saws. Really rate them.

I’m a stihl fan myself and when you’ve got your chain and bar set up right, I’m certain there’s nothing as efficient etc

I have spent the last few days using a Stihl MS 201 TC-M (12") and MS 661 C-M magnum (22").
At different ends of the spectrum but both are a pleasure to use. The 661 eats wood for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the little 201 punches above its weight. Neither are cheap but I guess that's why. They are bloody good.
My own home saw is a 30+ year old MS 024 (16") which is still (no pun) going strong and starts on the second or third pull every time.
I am not brand biased but the only Husky I have used was a POS by comparison but I am sure that was just a lemon.
It comes down to how much money you can throw at one and how much use it's going to get. Unless you have more money than you know what to do with it's always a compromise.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

Must be a prick for you to use, could only use it horizontally or you'd need a step ladder to get enough angle to ring up a log

    Pretty short 60”, maybe 48” at best, unless he’s 7foot 6”

I have the same with like you the 20 and 24" bars.
    Goes well.
Run a little stihl for the rest.
Chose it over husqvarna at the time as it felt better balance wise.
It was a replacement for a husqvana 45? that I used for about 16 years.
Agree with previous comment about service making the difference.
Went to the fieldays a couple years ago and got ignored by the salesman in the stihl tent.
So I ended up buying a husqvarna brush cutter. They didnt ignore me.
They seem to indulge the tyre kickers or the ones that stroke their ego.

I used a Stihl 027 when I worked in a saw mill, when the mill closed I went to the auction and bought the saw. I have had that saw for 25 years and it has never missed a beat. It has cut wood for both mine and my parents fires since I have owned it, cut down trees twice the size of it bar, and yes I smile every time I use it. My brother has a solo for almost as long and that also a good saw. My two cents worth is if you have the money buy a Stihl if you want to go cheap buy a solo. ( I have a tiny Ozito that need lots of love and attention but is a very good one hand pruning saw when it goes).

Ahs anyone heard of Yukon Chainsaws? I realise they will be chinese and parts will be near impossible, but atthe price they are on trade me, I would only have to get three or four dasy use and it would be cheaper than renting one.

    52cc with a 20 inch bar $150
    82cc with a 24 inch bar $260

And they come with a hard case for that price.

If its a McCulloch, try Husqvarna. Apparently Husky bought them out,. They may not be available from Husky rep stores, but they should know who to see.
