    DAY PACKS 40L

currently using a stoney creek 18l day pack which has been ok. But once you put your basics and a jacket in theres no room for any meat etc.
Been looking at 40l packs no bigger only using it for 95% day hunts. Will be used for all hunting situations north island farmland and bush hunting. Wanting some thing thats easy on the back, couple pockets and simple no gizmos. Came up with a few options
    huntech 40l $150
    macpac 40l weka $180
    cactus miklat 40l $270
to be honest the cactus is out of my price range. Any others worth looking at or feedback on packs listed

Use a karrimor 35l and like it. 2 zip side pockets, fits brew kit in one side and first aid in the other, top pocket for plb, knife etc and the main body for anything else, works well in conjunction with a binos harness

Not to noisy in the bush? and also the brown colour puts me off a bit.

I liked my huntech, until the strap broke first time I put any meat in it, 2+ hours from camp. Design is good and they are quiet in the bush, but I'm not sure the qc is up to much.

To be fair to them they took it back no fuss, which is cool as while it hasn't had much use its 2 years old.

I fund the Cordura/canvas packs to noise in the bush. Was think of seeing if twin needle would mod a minime with some fleece panels for me

2nd hand macpac gets my vote, cheaper than any 'hunting' pack and good value for money

Simple top load design with no zips to break
my 'day' bag is a macpac ravine that I got for $60, could get away with a smaller pack but at $60 it works for me, also plenty of room for winter trips where extra layers soon bulk out available space plus I carry a camera and tripod.
I use a narrow dry bag and load my gear into that, which keeps it all straight up and down and against my back ( ie not in a big bunch at the bottom of my pack) then I cinch up the side straps and it compresses the bag, keeps the profile of the pack down and as small as possible

I always thought with a bit of tailoring a blaze blue fleece t would be great to slide over a pack
cut down noise and improve visibility/ safety

I guess it would be a wee bit noisier than one of those soft material ones but to be honest I've only really used it in the open on tops. Mines black if that's still an option

I use one of the original NZ made Huntech convertible day packs. 25L approx. capacity
I try and keep weight down find we carry too much unnecessary junk.
Basic kit = bino's, meat bag, compass, maps, pillow cases, headlight, plant book, hunting permit, camera food & drink for the day. 1st aid kit, ammo, knife all carried on belt in pouch's

Easy to get some cheap camo polarfleece fabric and get a bag made up size of a pillow slip cut 2 holes out in top and bottom for straps to go thru, draw cord to tie up top fits any day pack makes them quiet and very cheap too!

I started using a Kathmandu day pack a couple of weeks ago. it lasted 3 short hunts before blowing a buckle... didn't even have any meat in it.

Yeh I've got one and it is perfect for a day in the bush. Water, clothes and tough enough to carry out meat.

I have a Macpac Torlesse 40l that I use and find it great. A pocket in the lid and on the back for things I want to access regularly. Have one for the kids to use too when they come with me.
