    Exped lightning

These keep looking at me in the shops. For those that have them, are they worth it? My gear weight I snow down to around 7.5 kg, but this gets carried in about a 3kg pack (old macpac cascade, original no made one). Time to go lighter or stick with my old bombproof one?

It what sense? Fabric not very durable or coming apart at the seams?

You have to be careful how you pack it because the fabric is so thin and I take it off to sit down and glass to avoid damage to the bottom.
But I have found mine to be very comfortable to carry with a moderate load on board.
The harness all looks pretty minimal but it has padding in all the right places and there's plenty of airflow across the back.

Wouldn't recommend for serious bush bashing or carrying out epic amounts of meat.
But for multi day alpine or fast and light trips its pretty bloody good.

Mine is lasting quite well in the short time I have had it. Broke one of the clips on the webbing but that was an easy warranty fix

You can still drop a reasonable amount of weight without losing toughness, I went from macpac cascade 3.2kg to macpac ascent 2.4kg.

Fuck that. For any fast and light trip its the perfect pack. I swapped to my old 60 litre last weekend and the weight difference was so noticeable.

Basically your cutting 2kg off your base weight before you leave home

Havent had problems with durability but like anything if your rough on gear then somethings gotta give

Yet to have any issues with mine either. Just had a few days pushing through shit in the Okuru river, still holding together.

Nah just the one pack. With the straps you can tuck it right in close to make a very well fitting small day bag.

I have pushed through quite a bit of tops scrub with mine and you wouldn't notice looking at the pack still looks brand new

I take a North Face Verto 35 day pack with mine.
They are essentially just another dry bag and only weigh 350gms from memory and folds completely into one of its own pockets.
Heaps of space for day hunting away from the main pack.
Have it loaded in the top of the Exped ready to go.
Drop the big pack if I see something and take the Verto with the GPS on so I can find my way back to the main pack.
I had a Cloudburst day pack also that was nice but its not as long as the verto.
Verto is deep enough for the Swarovski spotter and carbon fiber tripod to be inside with a full days worth of other stuff like coat, food and survival gear.
Not a set up that would be suitable for meat hunting though.

There are now North Face stores in Queenstown and Auckland now.

Bollocks. You were all meant to tell me they're rubbish and I don't need yet another pack. Now thanks to akaroa1 it sounds like I need one, and then one of those north face ones as well....
