yes stropping is brilliant. It's so quick and easy and stretches out the time between stone sharpening significantly. And as ebf says, it really puts the final sharp on a sharp knife. I have a piece of leather I got off Hamish @HGD and it works well. I don't even have it glued to anything, I just lay it out flat on my marble kitchen bench top. Seems to do the job but I keep thinking I should probably glue it to a piece of wood only I've loaded up both sides with compound now.

I have always stropped knives, chisels and plane blades on my hand. My father and grandfathers (all tradesmen cabinet makers) always did it that way. Stropping is done to remove the feather edge left by stoning rather than actual sharpening, however if you want a razor edge (and also fragile) then a hard leather strop and fine abrasive paste would do the job.

Here is the compound I am using. Found it way better than any of the 'solid' stick type compounds.

Made my own strops out of some 12mm ply and a strip of leather

Yes, this one was rather hard to find. After months of searching, I found a dealer that had two new ones on the shelf - first production run. You don't see them coming up second hand anywhere either.
Looking back, I should have bought both. Great little knife.

PPS Industries are listed as the NZ agents. No idea if they stock it

Yes, PPS are they agents, and that's where I purchased it from. You only need a little dab of it on your finger to keep a preloaded strop going. The big dig marks in the photo was where I fished some out into other containers for my brothers to use.

They also do 600, 360, 280, 150 and something below that if you want a courser polish.
