    New scope mounting

    Kiaora

Finally got my new scope. It's a bushnell banner 4-12 for my 308. Got it for 190 dollars from reloaders.co.nz, which is pretty competitive with US prices once you pay for shipping.

My question is am I ok to mount it on the old rings myself? I see lots of quite fancy ways of mounting scopes on the internet, is it worth taking it to a gunsmith to get it mounted or is that only for real precision type guns?
In other news, I went for a walk up no.1 line road Ruahines today in the middle of the day and picked up a flick open scope cover... On the off chance you dropped one and are reading this drop me a line.

    Cheers
    Tom

I've always done it myself, take bolt out and bore sight. Though I now have a 'gizmo' to do it. Y riles all manage to shoot minute of critter na i'm happy with that. Few drops of locative on the ring screws helps

Cheers will give it a go. Do you put any tape or rough up the inside of the ring or just put it straight on? The rings are the same ones my existing scope is on so I'm guessing they don't need to be roughed up or anything?

Don't 'rough up' the interior of the rings.
What worked for your old scope, will work for its replacement.

He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !
