Thread: Spika Drover Pack

Just a follow on to my Pack thread, wondering if anyone has tried the Spika Drover packs? I was looking at the Kuiu after my boss suggested it due to its light weight and modular meat haulage system, leaving the pack free for your gear and not having it get blood all through your stuff. He never saw the drover prior to going with Kuiu but reckons it looks like a good system.

Going to shoot across to Broncos in TGA tomorrow to give it a try but also wanting to hear from those who have used it and what your thoughts are.

Be bush stalking mainly, in the Kaimanawas and generally day trips/overnight which looking at the 40lt, would be perfect.

nearly $500 for a day/over night bag..........
it looks over engineered to me...... but Im a basic pikua daybag type of guy and will take full sized framepack if going overnight.
Ive had a few commercial daybags over the years...zip failure is main curse...and fabric delamination where you pick up back top not handle....
always a struggle to fit animal in as stuff all room...add overnight gear and pack nearly full before adding animal

i looked at link but didnt see it in detached mode.... see what Thar uses...full size frame with small bag on top and animal can be strapped on lower frame.

looked again and saw frame......yeah still a lot of dosh for something ...your $$$$

Interesting, cheers for the comment. I know what I’m after and want and what suites my needs, all I’m after is a review in the pack mate.

Some one was selling an almost new Tatonka 35L on here recently for way less than those prices. I’d choose the Tatonka over the options you’ve mentioned above, all day every day

There's a review in NZ Hunter 81 by Luke Care. He reckoned it was pretty good, comfortable carrying large loads. Never sure how much you can actually take to the bank from a magazine review but maybe worth a read if you can track it down.

Iv still got a old frame pack a farmer swopped me for a salmon.That was easy yrs ago.Frame pack great for carry deer legs in.$500 for a day pack na.Look up army surplus gear or packs on TM.

Well I went and got it. Had a play around with it today, loaded it up and felt real good.

Reason for looking at it is like the Kuiu or Bush Buck Destroyer, it has an interchangeable frame. Yeah it will generally be used as a day bag/couple nights but you're able to switch the 40lt out for the 80lt for longer trips down south. See how she holds up in a year but really like the design and materials used.

Dad's got one he's only been able to bloody it once but he was very happy with the pack carryed & the way it worked with the meat shelf so going on that you should be good you

I have a Drover the bigger one for my several day pack I rate it for me its the only big pack that would shrink down in back length to fit me, its been bombproof so far although they are not a light pack but it works well with the meat shelf, so well that tatonka have basically copied it for their newest pack

I think you'll find they all copied Mystery Ranch who first came up with the meat shelf idea.
