    The Demise of Canterbury Quail

Over the line: Rivers being whittled away | Stuff.co.nz
Man this pisses me off , Regional council should be all over this . They are weak as piss when it comes to Farmers acting like this . These fringes where prime Quail habitat . Ive all but given up now , my fave areas lost 400 hectares of fringe . Whats left is the real rubbish that can't be hunted (well not with a pointing dog )

    Theiving bastards are everywhere.

It happening up here to @Munsey.

A farm near a place I hunt has built his boundary fence about 200m inside the Doc boundary.
This boundary borders Doc Land for about 5kms. Thats why I have the doc boundaries clearly marked on my GPS.

Another area borders onto a braided river, located inside the stop banks, just as shown in your article.
This was once a prime pheasant and quail hunting area too.

Now it's been developed by bloody grape growers and access to this part of the river is no longer available to the public.

Our Reagional Council encourages this thieft of the public estate.

    Cheers
    Pete

"Barstools" and VC would say but the trouble is money talks in situations like these and there are people everywhere who will happily look the other way and the govt even make some by "fining" the culprits but leaving them with their stuff (hmmmmmmmmmm maybe this is built in to their business plans)

Rangitata Island used to have a huge area from above the rail bridge down. It was in the south branch, and it only sees water coming down maybe once every 7-8 yrs, covered in broom and scrub etc. Ever since around 2000, when the huge dairy expansion happened here, it has all been cleared.
There was a pair of quail with young ones in the barley when we were harvesting it. I got out and walked them to the edge of the paddock. Hope they found somewhere safe

yes it is happening all over canterbury,i have lost many prime habitat spots. this would not have happened in the usa. hunting groups are too strong.it needs an organisation here to fight for public rights or rather upland bird interests.

Our new Republican national government will do the same thing with public lands, just watch.

The House voted their first day in session to devalue our vast western public lands, so they can literally give them away to big mining, much of it Australian Companies, developers, and big corporate ranching under the guise of ceding it to individual States, who are corrupt far beyond imagination.
