Any of you hearty fisho's down south target swords?
Nice one got landed last year from Kaikoura , not sure if it was there target species . What water Temperature do they need @Gibo , its probably only a small window of a few weeks I'm guessing . Not sure if they get them on the west coast ? There Tuna fishing is legendary
They get em off the West coast and off the back of the spit too ( at least the commercial L/Liners do)
They will be there all the time id say
The Nationals are on at the moment so will be interesting to see what is been caught and where. Must be a website somewhere
Quite a few game boats going out of the Manukau every morning this week. A lot of bait fish about so they only going for liveys
When the Hoki / and boats turn up would be the time to hunt them mobile burley machines and the food source to boot ...tuna / swordfish combo or just one would be epic!
Have a look at New Zealand Sport Fishing Council - NZSFC - Home Page - Home under Nationals.
Results should be posted after tomorrow. Should give an idea on what's going down South

This is from a few years ago of the West Coast. I was on a Big Kiwi Trawler working as a fisheries observer. Theres swords there too. We'd pick them up occassionally in the mid water gear. Hokitika Trench would be a good place to look.
