    Wish it was, I had enough problems up at Intl without worrying about a fkn loose dog.

    No wonder the animal wouldn't settle down with a dozen cars filled with mall cops with strobe lights herding/chasing it, the outcome was inevitable.

    So the operations were 'sposed to be suspended while they got a tranquilliser gun from the zoo? FFS, in Akl morning rush hour traffic....

    They've shot escaped bulls, horses and a stag ( I'm told ) in years past.

    Shoot the dog.

    Get real. It's a high risk environment that needs control and order to function. It was a working dog under training, but non the less, just a dog.
    Tantamount to a neighbours dog under training out of control worrying your stock, you'd have no qualms then aye.

    There was no other option, an airport cannot come to a stand still.

    There is no reason why a dog cant be wearing a leash inside a box, guess it was unclipped then somebody was messing around with the box open and it got spooked. Pisses me off a bit, dog obviously had something special to be put to that work and it all went to waste because of some idiot.

    Tranquilizing an animal is a complicated process. You have to get the dose just right, or you're likely to kill it anyway. A zoo *might* have doses tailored to its resident animals at the ready, I think it's pretty unlikely that an airport would.

    Yeah, as the OP predicted the animal rights mob are having a field day care of Auckland Airports, including global comment coming in.

    The shooting was highly inevitable, the "escape" well that needs looking into as I am sure they are.

    As for tranquilising which all the loonies are raving about, as per @Solo thread it is not an easy option also given how close you need to be to the target.
    @stretch covers well the consequences.

    And if the loonies feel they can feed off comments on this forum, supportive of the solution, they should be mindful that most if not all of us here love dogs.

    Duh I had a lucky escape then! Sitting in a queue waiting takeoff in a 777 at Heathrow. Had the nose camera on the date of the plane ahead and a fox walked across between the planes. Logic told me it wouldn't win the contest! But after Auck yesterday, well fuck it could have been curtains?
