    F&*$ You, Inches!

Posting a link to another forum, but this is a great resource - why MOA is important. (Stop it with the inches!!!)

Minute of Angle Definition and Why Understanding MOA is Important

I was explaining MOA to someone today and searching for a diagram and stumbled across the above link. Fantastically written and great pics. Just read the first post, don't worry about the muppets who replied.

    Enjoy.

He says you need to be precise and yet states that 1moa at 100yards is 1inch

60 seconds to the minute, 60 minutes to the degree and 360 degrees to the circle I love my old compass and imperial micrometeras well . It's all just simple maths and straight ratios. More often than not now I use a mildot scope to estimate range as shown in the diagrams rather than fumbling round with binos, rangefinder, rifle again now where's the damn deer gone?

With you all the way - who keeps the metric system down, the U S and A. Cant blame them tho imagine the cost of a few million metric socket, sets allen keys etc

Fractions fkn shit me and anyone who thinks "one thou" is a fine tolerance - its only .025 of a mill.

Did I mention I think inches are balls?

Watch the NSSF videos on MOA and milradians.

Best way to do this IMHO is to start off by asking what length is a minute of angle at the distance I'm shooting at...

If you're shooting 600yds, a MOA is roughly 6 inches. If you need to move 12 inches that is 2 MOA, if you need to move 3 inches that is 0.5 MOA.

Some guys I've seen shooting would rather work in feet!

I use seconds of angle at work, wish I could shoot that accurately as well!

Good bit of reading cheers dougie. Just to check its sunk in correctly if you were shooting at 500yrd and the shot was 5inches off you would adjust it 1moa ?

I've got twelve inches but I don't use it as a rule.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

You can still think/talk in inches and shoot and kill deer... He states that group sizes in inches don't mean anything, but at a defined distance they do.

I don't think inches is dead yet.
