    Talking G'day from Christchurch

    Hi team,

Joined here to get connected with hunters in South Island and beyond. I'm just getting into deer stalking and normally frequent the canterbury hot spots but haven't had much joy yet - not even fresh sign! So any tips here would be great. Seems most DOC land within 90 mins of christchurch has considerable hunting pressure, especially for deer. Have had more joy with goats and Tahr this year though. Also had a blast a few weeks ago dropping a few wallabies in the hunter hills out the back of Waimate. Their back steaks don't taste too bad at all if they're pan fried with some onion! And of course, rabbits. I weekly go out and get a few rabbits for pie or dog tucker. Have a military background and if there's no animals to be had then I love time in the bush or up nice and high glassing the tops.

I own a Browning X-Bolt in .270, a Baikal .223 single shot (she'll shoot a 10c piece 5 times at 120m+ !) and the good old reliable mossberg 12 guage. Also have recently aquired my grandads old Winchester .22LR which shoots nice and true - better than a bloke I hunt with's ruger 10/22!

    Cheers

    Jord

Welcome mate. Feel free to PM me about any areas in inland Canterbury you may be interested in looking at. I spent four years up there (05-09) and almost every weekend was spent in the hills, so may be able to help point you in the right direction.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
