    Rem 700 SA 338 Edge

I had a few spare moments this Christmas morning, so shot down to work to take my new Rem 700 338 Edge out of the stock from bedding it yesterday.

It has lightened Rem 700 short action, light weight firing pin & shroud, fluted bolt & barrel, McMillan Hunters Edge stock, side bolt release, Trueflite Ultra Match 26" barrel & T2 Terminator muzzle brake.

It weighs 3.070 kgs bare, 3.135 with the rail, 3.890 with the scope, so 8.6 lbs with MK4, NF UL rings & Alumina caps.

It's single shot, ejects fired cases no problem, only loaded rounds need to be removed with the bolt, which is where the side bolt release comes in.

I haven't shot it yet, thought that might be pushing it a bit today

sounds ground breaking... im guessing a standard .338 edge is a long action?
what weight projectiles and b.c and speed are you expecting?

I've built plenty of Edges on Rem 700 LAs so I thought I would do something a little different.

The Edge is really only single feed only, especially with my new long throat reamer.

It should easily push the 300 Berger over 2800 & the 285 Amax faster.

I will get it going as soon as I get a chance, won't be tomorrow, 9 hours in the car

Cool Greg, my edge is on the p action so can get an empty out no worries but need to pull bolt on a live round. It is actually a very good method and is no inconvenience, after all, I put a round in to fire it, not to pull it out again!!

Is the short action port heavily modified?

Yes it was modified with an even longer case in mind, but unfortunately that never eventuated

I finally got it up the range today to break it in & start get some loads sorted for it.

    I tried ADI 2225, VV N570 & Alliant RL33 with the 300 Berger & 285 Amax.

I mainly concentrated on the Berger today.

It didn't take long to stop coppering, as usual for these barrels.

It is showing plenty of promise & has great velocity

Here is one of the groups I shot today, it will end up with more velocity from N570 & RL33 will provide the most.

The brass is on its first firing so the ES & accuracy can be a bit average.

It looks like it will run the 300s happily at 2900+fps.

Initially the 285s look like they will cruise at 3000-3050+ but I haven't tried them with RL33 yet, that's tomorrows job

The recoil isn't too bad & will try to get a video sorted tomorrow.

I had it up the range again yesterday.

It has exceeded expectations for velocity.

Here is a video of Ashlee shooting it.

The T2 brake is doing a great job

Is that your daughters group you posted, and do you do all your testing off a bi pod?

Nope that was one of mine, she shot just over a moa, two touching, one away, not bad for 14 & only shooting a little in the holidays.

I shoot all my groups with a bipod & rear bag usually off the bench.

Like this but with pod spikes not the rubber feet.

Well done to her, im sure I wouldn't get that close

I might get a rear bag and spike my pod too then, wet ply(dog box) and rolled up fleece is not the best
