    Target Camera

Finally got all the pieces I needed to make a target camera. Range is out to 5km so will be suitable for all range and gong work. Have tried to list all the instructions so people can have a go themselves.

All products are from Aliexpress apart from the batteries as they don't air freight them so got them off trademe $25 each. I will be using an existing GoPro Hero 3 camera but you could use any form of Handy Cam etc as long as you get the appropriate connectors.

Power source x 3 (One for Camera and Transmitter, one for Receiver and one for Mini DVR)

Get a Lipo charging bag as it’s a much safer to charge them in the bag. They have on very rare occasions exploded.

The Camera Receiver, Transmitter and Screen are all in one kit, makes things much easier.

The Mini DVR is again optional but I thought it would be good to record the Range / Gong shooting. It sits in between the Receiver and the Screen. Don’t worry about what plug comes with it as later on you will cut it and replace with a T-Plug so a Lipo battery can power. You will need a TF memory card (mini – SD common for other electronics)

Last few items are for strapping in the lipos, a cheap tripod and a go-pro tripod mount all not essential but might as well for the project.

    $4.27

All up was approx $220 US landed.

Really happy with how it turned out, kept it all tidy in a cheap imitation Pelican case.

Few little things to do such as an adjustable angle so the LCD screen can sit up on an angle or at 90 degrees for better viewing, foam in the bottom section to keep all the other bits together, more secure way of fitting the transmitter and Lipo on tripod oh and some time to actually shoot and use it Thanks for looking and I'm happy to try and answer any questions.

fantastic now you just need a big piece of armor plate to put behind the camera.

    Good work @nzfubs

Will be putting this on my next project list.

I can see lots of uses for it not just shooting.

    Cheers

Would you think you might be able to use a tablet/iPad as the monitor? GoPro app will transmit over wifi but I doubt it would do 50m let alone 5km.

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

    Was thinking the same.

I have a Panasonic camera and a tablet for the monitor ...... just need the transmit receive bit nutted out.

    Cheers

They had all sorts of combos of transmitter and receiver. You can just get the Trans and receiver parts with the correct plugs for a tablet at the receiving end and the same go pro fitting at the other. Not sure if many tablets have the ability to be just a monitor though

You'd need a beefed up transmitter, or something along the lines of the BullsEye system app. Deadeye Dicks have them on special at the moment for the whole kit, and a lot more $$ than nzfubz nice set up.

    $600

$800 for 500 yard range incl camera

A bit anaemic @ only 500yd and expensive. The one I am building uses 1000 meter line of sight AV Tx Rx units. Looked at 2k units as well for about the same price.
This posting was my inspiration Target cam
