    Darwin candidate?

I have just been reading through various reviews make of scope, and came across the following on a shooters forum

" I really like my xxxxx scope, it only took me 4 shots to zero my rifle, and the first two of those was to clear the oil from the barrel"

Dont think there will be much in the rifle, but between the ears there seems to be quite the reservoir still......

An acquaintance reckons the first shot is good enough to clean his 270. then he asked if I wanted to buy it

I do, all the time, not on all just those that are not going to be used for awhile, I have a note taped to the inside of my Cabinet reminding me to wipe the oil out before firing.

To qualify for a Darwin Award you need to either kill yourself, or render yourself unable to reproduce. So they can't be a candidate...yet.

Iv got a mate a bit like that. I'm not sure if it's being lazy or just knows no better, iv tried to educate him.
You can shoot over a light lube (not 30/40), rust preventative, maybe he just calls it oil.

Did it occour to any of you that he may have pushed a clean patch threw before shooting and it takes a few rounds to burn out any remaining oil?

It is pretty common for..................no it is more common than not for a cold clean lubed and wiped clean barrel to throw its first shot(usually low) or two due to being Lubed and or Clean due to a reduction in pressure.

Most lubricants work best when applied liberally then wiped off till you think it is all gone(it isnt!)
