I am afraid I took nothing out of listening to that snippet. Knowing that most duck shooting fatalities and accidents occur on opening weekend and knowing that most deer shooting fatalities and accidents involve someone born between 1950 and 1965 is no different than knowing that drivers that drink alcohol and drive or drivers that speed excessively are mostly involved in vehicle related fatalities and accidents. There has been numerous campaigns aimed at reducing drink driving and at reducing speeding yet the fatalities and accidents still occur. Personally I don't think that specifically targeting opening weekend duck shooters or geriatric old farts with failing eyesight (like me) will result in much change to the unfortunate fatal incidents and accidents that occur while hunting. Repeated reinforcement of the seven basic rules to all firearms users (many of whom are hunters) and a wider audience is in my view the thing to do and I say all power to MSC if they choose to do that.

MSC have to be seen to be doing something after they sacked all their instructors. They have decided that the Internet and pamphlets are the best way to reach people.

I thought the hunters 1950-1965 thing was interesting, but I have to wonder if the statistics were weighted for volume of hunters. I can imagine there are a lot of hunters in that age group, but other generations grew up playing computer games instead of hunting on the farm or whatever and might do other stuff for recreation. Don't know anything about duck hunting, never tried it so was not so much interested in that part.
Being fairly new to this hunting/shooting stuff I really know nothing of the history of the MSC so can't comment on that either.
