    Teen wounded. shot in shoulder

Teen wounded in shoulder in shooting accident - National News | TVNZ

I like the way police are treating it as an accident. It's not a accident. It's negligence. The basic firearms rules we are taught - unload, pass over safely etc. But climbing a fence with one up the spout....bloody pig hunters.
    tongue firmly in cheek.

It is a shame that some people will never learn unless it results in an "accident"

You could say the same for traffic accidents.

It is unfortunate that the kid was shot but it is not an accident. Definitely the result of negligence.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

How do all of you guys KNOW that this was not an accident ?

The article does not say anything about if he shot himself, or if it was a mate, or if the firearm maybe fell ?

Either half the forum was there, and actually saw the event happening, or you guys are making a whole lot of assumptions... Just saying

My two cents worth . " I totally agree sitting back in my arm chair with clear level head ,that it's absolutely imperative that a gun must be checked and unloaded when climbing , leaping , etc a fence " but I've chased pigs and common sense can go completely out the window when mid chase ! Adrenaline can turn a responsible , intelegant ,sensible human being into a complete Muppet ! In a heartbeat .

I seriously do not agree. Either the victim was climbing the fence with a loaded rifle (which he should not have been) or someone else had the loaded rifle while he was climbing the fence and pulled the trigger or knocked, bumped or dropped the rifle causing it to go off and shoot the victim. Sorry ebf but none of those things should have been able to occur. There is negligence here somewhere.

Woke up next to a heap of pigs in my time. The adrenaline and shame gets less and less the more you do it.

If I was sensible and intelligent I would not have had any fun

Here is my post from the incident thread.
Too young to know better it scared the shit out of me and have been wary of crossing an obstacle ever since.

Armed with an old side by side each a friend and I loaded up and went to walk a hedgerow for quail after school one evening.
I had the oldest gun that often fired both barrels instead of one. We had to cross a fence and we both lent our guns on the fence and vaulted over hanging on to a batton. Which caused my gun to fall and fire both barrels mere inches from where my foot had just landed.

Always make a gun or rifle safe before crossing a fence or other obstacle, pass it under the fence or pass it to someone else while you cross
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.

One of the TEN Firearm Safety Commandments here is: Never negotiate an obstacle [ fence, ditch, hedge or gate ] with a loaded firearm.

There is no such thing as common sense,
It's is European bullshit for arrogant pricks that are to lazy to teach..
Is it common sense to not stick a falk in a plug hole ?? I'd have said un educated..
I stuck a falk in a plug hole at 6?? Almost killed me..
Parents trying to be safe put caps on all the plugs so in doing that there was no need to reinforce the training in not touching the plug..
As I got older it had no understanding of the danger..

Now if you watch your old man have a beer in a maimai ,jump a fence with his gun or reload with a fag in his gob..you will be taught that that's ok..
You say what you want to get your licence ,because the dude at mountain council was a goose and my dad did it this way.
You do that for 15 years no probs, even showmen ur own Kidd that's ok. Then blow ur arm off,,,

Then someone says you have no common sense,,
Not an accident,, result of poor training
