Hey Ron just a quick question .
Over here our club has a monthly 5 stand shoot .
Without starting the whole long target , close target debate , what sort of distances are you guys shooting .
We usually have a long crosser of some kind and a couple of in your face targets , but in general most wouldn't be more than 30 yards .
I'm just interested in what you guys are throwing , its been a few years since I shot with you guys and things change .

PS - have you got rid of that stinky old P gun yet and got a real mans Blaser ?

Hi Ken, we normally stick to the Compak rules, a bit. I normally take the middle stand and place a marker out at the max distance 33 meters.
We'll normally put a looper, battue over that mark then just a variations on that.
You could be an .... and put targets thru the corners of the Compak rectangle (33x40 meters) but cannot see the point of totally demoralising everyone.
We are attracting a lot of part timers so always have targets in the air with maybe 1 or two out of the 6 (per field) a bit tougher.
We run 2 fields on our normal days, and one usually works out a bit tougher.
With midis, minis rabbits one very fast, one dribbling out we usually find enough to catch people out.
In November at the Nationals we will start reasonably soft for the trophy, day then by the last day of Nats themselves up the anti to good competition targets.

How many traps are you using for a field ?
    What make of trap ?
What is the standard course of fire - 3 singles and a double ?
We are running under ACTA rules for sporting and it seems over here every organisation is different .
Field and Game run the Fitasc side of things here , which I prefer but the nearest club is 350km away and it makes a big day to drive there , shoot , and then drive home . A group of us have done it a couple of times , but you've got to be keen .
I'm just interested in what and how you guys are throwing , we have a growing interest here in Sporting and a great location at the club , but being so far from everything here its good to know we are shooting similar targets to the rest of the known world

Hi Ken, we use 6 traps per field. As per the FITASC rules there is are 3 compulsory targets: left to right, right to left and either one (springer?) crossing back line or an overhead from behind.
All Promatics, most brand new, we aim to have 36 Falcons and versions (eg down hill thrower, battues, mini's, midi's rabbits, loopers) by next year, so can easily put up 3 full FITASC Sporting fields, or 4 Compak plus practice field.
Graeme Brown and Target Products in Timaru have been extremely generous and we are using 18 of GB's traps which we will purchase after the Nationals next year.
We try and stick to the FITASC guidelines in Sportuing and Compak but you know sometimes a little over keenness can get in the way!!!!
