Are you Looking to buy my first hunting rifle?

I own a few hand guns but never a rifle, I have always wanted to get into hunting but not sure were to start with a gun.
Whats the best brand for around $500.00
    Bolt action or Pump
    Caliber? 30.06? 30.30?

best to try rifles for fitting to you.would recommend a bolt action or a single shot rather than a pump for a first rifle.calibre is subjective for everyone depends on recoil tolerance distance you want to shoot at what size game.for deer I would start at 243 upwards even though I have shoot all my few deer with a 223 just gives you a bigger margin of power.if only wanting to shoot goats and smaller 22 hornet or upwards.for $500 you are probably looking second hand or some thing like a rossi single shot new.just try as many rifles for fit as you can as the better it fits usually the better you shoot and more confidence you have in taking game with the first shot.

Two posts from two with spam links removed.
One post claiming to have hunted extensively.
One post claiming to want to get into hunting.

A wee alarm bell was the pump action with 30.06 and 30-30...not your average kiwi shooter
