Thread: Dog Whistle

Lost my ACME dog Whistle , I thought I had a replacement but its Too high pitched (210 1/2 ) & my pot licker doesn't respond very well to it . My one was so old I've no idea where I got it from and what pitch it was. From memory I think it was recommended for gsps . So where do I get one & what pitch ? . Cheers Munsey

whistle is achieved by creating a small opening with one's lips and then blowing or sucking air through the hole. The air is moderated by the lips, curled tongue,[1] teeth or fingers (placed over the mouth) to create turbulence, and the curled tongue acts as a resonant chamber to enhance the resulting sound by acting as a type of Helmholtz resonator.

Used whistles in the past and UN into the same problem, you loose the damn things. This round of dogs I opted for my own whistle, seems to work just vary tines for different dogd

Acme 211, just buy a new one.....and a spare

210 1/2 and I keep a few scattered from lanyards to glove boxes. Superior tone and reach to anything I can do on my own.

I use a 212 to really get the message out there. Only works at one pressure too which is great if you've just run up a hill and you're huffing and puffing. That and I don't know anyone else that uses one, which is important if you ever run your dog with another handler nearby. I have a dog here who is prone to following other handlers whistles.

My bad 212.... We use a 640 for the wires has a refs whistle at one end.

My wife uses the 640 for her setter. That ref whistle on the other end is downright offensive! Eric Douglas threatened to throw her out of a trial if she blew that thing near him again

Didnt realise there was such a variety of them ( pitch wise ) anybody know what the numbers refer to?

Higher the number lower the tone. Higher pitches favoured for closer working dogs, lower tone travels further.

I'm not sure. I've seen plenty of deaf young ones mind you

yeah I've got 2 of those

I use a 210.5 for one dog and a Roys Commander for the others... both have the same effect ... remarkably they all respond ...
