Don't think a doublecab will really suit me to be honest - I prefer keeping gear safe and dry inside a vehicle and don't do enough spotlighting etc to really use the advantage of a ute. Cheers though.
Its not really relevant to this thread though unless you can find me one sub-10k thats worth having. Its not like I'll be using it for 10 hours a day of technical off-roading anyway.
Thread summary so far:
Safari still on list, check for rust in roof.
Terrano still on list, check for rust under back seats.
Rocky probably off list, too small for main vehicle.
Prado still on...
The main thing against the LWB for me is just the sheer size of the thing - have driven a few on and off road and I like how they drive, but having to 3-point turn tight corners on steep tracks got...
Thought about Cherokees but all automatic, big thirsty petrol engines (or the rare diesels have a bad rep), heard gearboxes aren't too reliable either.
Mate who used to have a SWB now has a LWB with the king-size sunroof, loves it for bunny sessions.

:D You make a good point - it will do a bit of everything really - driving places on the road, driving places off the road... how rough the useage gets will probably depend on what I end up with...
Putting the Patrol vs Landcruiser toughness debate aside as I'm sure either would be tough enough (and I can probably find a 4wd forum with 20 pages of that discussion)...
Thought about a Grand...
Cheers fullas - had heard about rusty floor issues with earlier Terranos, know if its a problem with the later ones too? Wanting the gruntier intercooled 2.7 (early ones be too gutless for me I...
So after many happy years of Subaru ownership I'm thinking about turning to the dark side and chopping the GTB in for a proper 4wd in the sub-10k price range. Pretty much has to be manual, I have a...
