My wife showed interest in trying trout fishing and got a winter licnese. So far a couple of lures, softbaits and a fly lost for0 fish. Hoping to change that tomorrow afternoon lol.

Upgraded the rod to an 8’ 6’’ Daiwa strikeforce with a Daiwa RE LT real with 10 pound braid. Feels alot more responsive and should work for egg rolling too.

Hoping to give egg rolling a go in the twizel canals over winter. Might try some artificial eggs dangling off a float at either the Wānaka or Hāwea outlets in the meantime.

Hāwea dam has very low flow at the moment so have been fishing the lake outlet. Just a couple lures to snags so put a nymph on a float and landed a little rainbow hen for breakfast.

Caught 2 Browns in the last two days, one spinning, one on the fly. Third and first cast respectfully. Upper Clutha seems quite active at the moment.
