Well I'm OK with that on the Safari front as I didn't sell it. Damned good machine they are. Just a shame about the rusty roof which is showing up more and more.
This will be a hunting wagon...

This will be a hunting wagon...
Yeah, they have a non serviceable turbo. I've read they go better with the turbo from the 4KX1, the engine that not even the agents want to know about. With better breathing they don't have the...
A lot of them haven't and still have issues, ... big end bearings, drive train, valve seats, ... There are a fair few Isuzu's and Safari's that have done the hard k's and don't have the issues,...
Don't knock them. I've seen an almost factory Bighorn well out perform a fully tricked out 80 series cruiser; this cruiser had over $20k thrown at it and it struggled and broke. The Bighorn just...
I'm not entirely sure, ... but it is an Isuzu Bighorn 3.1TD, 5 speed manual. Will see what sort of rear diff it has when I get it on the jack. Have longer springs and shocks to go in the back,...
Pretty close.
I've not gone Toymota nor Nissan. Figured the Safari rusty roof syndrome is only going to show up more and more as time goes by. All the cruiser adds list what they've replaced lately, ......
Found something. Woohoo. Will require collecting and a little work to set up. The good thing is it will match the longer shocks I bought last night.
I've noticed that. :D
Looking at it the Nissan appears to be a better prospect. Bomb proof engine, similar gearbox/more manuals available, proper transfer box with 2x4/4x4 and free wheeling hubs, surprisingly more...
That is my thinking.
I would love a manual but they are so rare in the Nissan or Toyota.
Cheers cambo. The old story, the only dumb question is the one you didn't ask when you should have.
I believe you can put some Isuzu LSD's in the front of Navaras.
Decisions, decisions, ....
You would still need a kit to make it run 2x4 then. What do the diffs run at out of locker mode? Open/LSD?
Have heard a number of reasons they blow smoke when cold. Not a big issue. The diff locker version have better fuel economy and tyre wear?
Seems to be an issue with the valve seats in this engine. Any idea on the rating of the 24/12V converters? The rust doesn't look like too big a deal if caught early enough, the Jap import Hiaces had...
The voltmeter was showing 12V. Power seemed OK, had to really stand on the pedal. Might want to lighten that a bit or get keen fella to knock up one of those drinking stands so I can stand up for...
Hmmmm. What is this rubbish about Toyotas not being affected by rust? All the ones I've seen have the stuff around the rear windows, particularly the sill, and the the windscreen. I take it that they...
Yeah, familiar with Toyota so figured that one.
I have four, 2x 115mm, 1x 9" and the bench grinder.
Thanks Cambo, that give me a good idea of cost difference between the models too.
Shame that don't have the moon roof.
Thanks Cambo. The big end bearings going seems to be a common problem at 100,000-150,000km. Are there better after market bearings available? The non rusting is a plus, normally easier to replace...
Thanks VC.
Will do some tyre kicking this weekend. What should I look out for? Bits to avoid, bonus bits, diff locks and how to identify, ...
Will be something in the 400,000km range.
Think we may have a winner. Looks like I will be back to Toyota. Good thing is I can pick one up down here for a good price too.
