In our 4WD we often carry some Ryobi 18 V tools, a chainsaw, electric secateurs and a compact reciprocating saw for clearing overgrown tracks.
Trim all the branches way back, a foot further than the path edge.
Then take to the light stuff with a slasher as Barry says or a decent pair of hedge shears.

I picked up a Rab Mythic 600 from a Facebook tramping/outdoor page for about half new price. Lightweight and warm as anything. A liner in minus 10 was too warm for me. Far too hot for hut use.
