    Ruahine red

Its been over 3 year since i have nailed a doc land deer. A mate txt me yesterday to see if i was keen for a evening hunt after work. I havnt sighted in my rifle yet, so was just along for a walk.
We slogged the hour in uphill and were having a drink.
I said to my mate, is that a deer there.. looked as if it was front on steering at us, na its just a log he said. We start to walk off, i say to my mate just look at the log through your scope. He raises the rifle and the look on his his face tells me its a deer.
I range it at 198yrds and my mate drops it on the spot, his longest kill shot by about 100yrds.
We had a quick chat about recovery and then another pops out, I jump behind his 308 and that was that , two deer down.
I left my knife at home, so it took a while to butcher two deer. Back home just before midnight with full packs.

Good stuff. I remember trying to convince my Dad what he thought was a log was a hare. I eventually convinced him, he was really surprised when it turned out to be a hare.

    Good effort.

Plenty of really meaty looking trees and logs have been shot over the years. Better that than people I guess.
