The “you can’t go wrong” .223 load

I noticed on a lot of rifles throughout the years that there seems to be particular loads with various calibers that you simply can’t go wrong with, for example 92- 94gr of 2225 in a 338 edge with a 300gr or 72/74gr of 2217 in a sako 7 rem mag with the 162sl and so on. These such loads seem to always be bang on with various rifles. Is there such a holy grail load in a 223 that you just can’t go wrong with? Am a confident reloader

    Components are :

    Sako 85 varmint 1/12 twist
    Lapua brass unfired
    Redding bushing dies

Want to shoot deer so am thinking 55gr non match bullets

24.5GRNS AR 2206 mild but shoots very well I have used that behind everything from 50-55grns over the years...now use 748 cause it was cheap....like me.
for deer my go to is now a 50 grn ttsx with similar powder charge..slightly more but not much...they kill much better than they should.

25.4gn of ADI 2206h with a 55gn projectile (SP, HP, FMJ, Blitzking, V-Max) seems to be a magic number in the various .223/5.56 rifles I've had.

I know 42-42.4gr of AR2008 under a 168gr pill is the default for replicating Federal Gold Medal Match 308 - which is supposedly right around the "optimum charge weight", all to do with harmonics apparently. Wouldn't be surprised any common loads you come across for other cals happen to be OCW loads for them too.

    Sure is.
They are not great to fit in Sako mags though.
I now use 77gn Tipped MatchKings instead.

you could try one of Dan Newberry's OCW Loads using Win 748

    .223 Remington, using W748 powder:
    40 grain bullet, 28.0 grains
    50 grain bullet, 27.1 grains.
    55 grain bullet, 26.6 grains
(a good milder load is 26.0 grains of W748 with a 55 grain bullets)
BC doesn't matter, until you need to dial

I use 26gn's of 748 for 50's, 55's, and 60's in my rifle, all seem to shoot to the same point for the first 200 metres. 748 is so easy to load with, great through a thrower if you're in a hurry.

    I was told 24gr of BM2.

Settled on 23.7gr being a 65gr sierra GK. Exceptional accuracy and killing power.
